In 2008 Paul McLinden released his first solo album ?Wings and Wheels'.
This country tinged record was all about travel and it was warmly received wherever it travelled to, gaining plaudits from people such as Tom Morton of BBC Radio Scotland who described it as his favourite Scottish debut of the year.
Since then Paul has toured nationally with Pete Doherty, contributed songs to Dot Allison's
... [More] latest album as well as finding his music featured on everything from a Ralph Lauren catwalk show in New York, to a recent episode of C.S.I. based in the same city.
Now Paul is back with another studio offering of his own ? this time a six song mini album called ?This is That' and a special one off promotional single called ?Love You Bring'.
Recorded at Chem 19 studios in Hamilton ?This is That' walks in a different musical direction from its predecessor, shunning the sunny west coast jangle pop of Americana for something closer to home.
Rather than taking its cues from Elliot Smith, ?This is That' should be perceived sound tracking Colin Smith as he runs his way through an Alan Sillitoe short story.
The musical compass points towards the folk musings of John Martyn, Nick Drake or Bert Jansch but there are also brief dalliances with Krautrock, as well as ambient strung out soundscapes which pepper the album throughout.
This is that: for when why is that won't do.!
